3 Tips to Accept Your Anger
Anger is a normal, "hard wired" emotion and experiencing anger time
to time is unavoidable. Although anger is a natural part of our existence,
inappropriate expression of anger is not. Accepting anger is one of the
first steps in learning to lead a more functional life:
-
Learn About Your Anger
- Treat your
anger with curiosity. Learn about the different
triggers that make you angry and the situations that you find
frustrating. Learn how you react
internally.
-
Observe Your Anger
- When you
feel that the anger is rising, take a step back and note how it
manifests. Notice your anger related thoughts. Notice your anger
related physical reactions (e.g., increased heart
rate, muscle tension).
-
Make a Commitment that You Will not React to
Your Anger
- Make a promise that you will not act on your
anger. Remember that the experience of anger is OK, but the
inappropriate expression of anger is
NOT.
